If you are confused about FBA Barcodes / Labels and the process with Amazon then let me try to clear this up for you. It seems daily we have students and people that are just starting their FBA business who seem to be overwhelmed with this barcode process.
So clear your mind, and lets start from the beginning.
I think most of the confusion comes from people assuming barcodes and labels are the same thing or are not distinguishing the difference.
Definition: Amazon labels are the labels you must print from your amazon shipping plans and placed over the existing barcodes on product packages.
They look like this, when you print them:
Internally, Amazon scans and tracks all packages when they arrive at the warehouses with this internal code, this is how they are able to help you track your items, payments, and everything related to your products, internally within Amazon.
Barcodes are the printed codes that are on about 95% of the products you find in the United States. Virtually all products sold in retail locations in the US have these barcodes. When you are doing retail arbitrage, this in what you scan with your smart phone as described in our various training programs.
They normally look something like this.
Amazon requires that you cover these barcodes with the labels they make available for you to print when putting together your shipping plans. We normally accumulate
30 -50 items we want to send to Amazon. When we are ready we start adding products to our shipping plan.
As the products are being entered Amazon is building our shipping plans our sellers account back office. When we have entered all the products, Amazon will show us what warehouse(s) they want us to ship to, normally our shipments will go to 3 various warehouses around the country.
At this point we click the print labels button, and our 30-50 labels will print on our
Labels we have loaded in our printer.
We print our Amazon labels on 30 up Avery Type labels that you can buy at any office supply store. You can also find these on Amazon and Ebay. You don’t need any kind of
special label printer! You can simply print these on any home printer as you would a normal 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper.
Are we clear so far?
At this point, we peel of the labels, and place them over the existing barcode(s) on our products. Some products will have the barcodes printed on their package in two or three places, when this happens you simply cover one of them with the printed label and cover the others with blank labels. Amazon wants you to do this so the people checking your products in the warehouse don’t accidentally try to scan the manufactures original barcode.
After all our packages have been labeled we pack up the boxes, print the Amazon Shipping Labels that they provide, and ship them off to the Amazon warehouses. We print the SHIPPING LABELS on regular paper and tape them securely on the packages. The shipping label goes on top of the package, and the FBA label goes on the side. They look like this and are automatically generated for you to print in your Amazon sellers account.

Now, I know what you are thinking.
Dale, what about if I want to sell one of the 5% of products that don’t have a barcode? What if I want to bundle products? What if I have my own private label or hand made product I want to sell?
In these rare cases, you must have your own BARCODE. They can be purchased online. Yes there are some companies that I have seen that sell single bar codes in the $50 – $70 each range. This is ridiculous!

Rarely you will find products that have a barcode, but are not listed on Amazon. When this happens you need to list your item as described in our video training at www.OnlineAuctionU.com.
From time to time you will find a product that need you to provide a barcode for. Recently Dawn and I found a great deal on Clovis the Cat.

This is a great stuffed animal made by a company that has been around since the late 1800’s and truly is “The Worlds Softest Stuffed Animal Toy”
Anyway we found a great deal on these, but we had to buy 500 units, and they were packed in cases of eight or ten in plastic bags with no barcode.
No problem, we just created our own listing, using our own barcode. When doing your listing Amazon will ask you for the UPC code and you just give them the barcode you have purchased and assigned to that product. It goes without saying you can only use 1 barcode for 1 product.
Earlier this month we packaged 4 different pool toys we bought at dollar tree.
We sold a dozen of these packages within a week making $8.00 profit per package, and unfortunately the Dollar Tree ran out of stock on a couple of the items so we have not re-stocked our Amazon inventory yet. Hopefully Dollar Tree will get re-stocked soon. I don’t know if you realized it or not but I have just shared with you a major insiders Secret.
Yes, all four of the above items had bar codes, however we could not sell these products individually and make enough profit to make it worth the time and effort. However, we simply placed all four of these items in a large plastic bag, taped it up, added our bar code and WhooLa $96.00 profit in a week! We have done this so many times, with so many products. When you understand bar codes, bundling is simple.
Now let me address the last 3 emails we have received regarding Amazon FBA Barcodes.
I opened a seller account on Amazon yesterday. However I am having trouble coming to grips with buying the barcodes. Can you recommend where to get them?
I have 20 of the exact same item, a swimming pool float I bought at Dollar Tree. So does this mean I need 20 barcodes?
If I am understanding your correctly, YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE BARCODES. Just use the barcodes that is already on swimming pool float package.

I listened to all your webinars and trainings. You neglected to tell people that every time they send a product to Amazon they have to place a new bar code on the item, and they can cost over $50.00 each.
I am tired of scammers that always leave out the extra cost involved & they never tell you about.

Why are you guys teaching people to buy bar codes from Brown Box Suppliers, my cousin told me all I needed to get the product listed on Amazon was the UPC already on the shampoo I want to sell!
